Being there

Minneriya National Park is a national park in North Central Province of Sri Lanka. The reason for declaring the area as protected is to protect the catchment of Minneriya tank and the wildlife of the surrounding area. The park is a dry season feeding ground for the elephant population dwelling in forests of Matale, Polonnaruwa, and Trincomalee districts. The park earned revenue of Rs. Along with Kaudulla and Girithale, Minneriya forms one of the 70 Important Bird Areas (IBAs) of Sri Lanka. Listed stays nearby appear on the Minneriya hub when hosts publish. If a house is not on SoloRoost, we do not invent it.

Practical notes

  • Park tickets and licensed jeeps are sold at the gate or through local operators — not as a SoloRoost add-on unless a host lists one on their stay.
  • Sightings are weather and luck. Dawn and late afternoon are usually the kinder hours.
